Mahiyangana

Mahiyangana is a historic town in Sri Lanka’s Uva Province, known as the site of the island’s first Buddhist stupa. According to tradition, the Buddha visited here during his first journey to Sri Lanka, and the Mahiyangana Stupa was built to enshrine a relic from that visit. The area is also culturally significant for the indigenous Vedda people and is surrounded by scenic landscapes, including the Mahaweli River
