The Kandy Esala Perahera, is Sri Lanka’s grandest cultural spectacle. Held annually in August, this  procession honors the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha with a dazzling display of ancient pageantry, traditional Kandyan dancers and rhythmic drummers.

The highlight is the majestic Maligawa Tusker, an elephant draped in gold-stitched silk carrying the sacred casket. This vibrant fusion of spirituality and heritage, set against the historic backdrop of Kandy, remains one of Asia’s most breathtaking and unforgettable festivals.
